History Author Spotlight - Michèle Schindler

Today's History Author Spotlight guest is Michèle Schindler.

Tell us about yourself

I am a nearly 31-year-old language teacher for both children and adults, teaching English and German as a second language. In addition to both those languages, I can read and write French, and read Latin. I used to be a student at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, where I read English Studies and History with a focus on mediaeval studies. Sadly, however, I never finished my studies there, due to financial reasons. My main area of interest is the 15 th century in England and France, and the people and the culture of that time.

Apart from reading, writing and researching – and history in general – I love baking, taking photographs, and drawing. And dogs.

Tell us about your books

My first book is on Sir Francis Lovell, Viscount Lovell, called “Lovell Our Dogge. The Life of Viscount Lovell, Closest Friend of Richard III and Failed Regicide”. It was published by Amberley Publishing in 2019. I have also written a novella on Sir Francis, “The Autumn Baron. An Unconventional Beginning”, which I self-published via amazon, and am the editor and co-author of a charity anthology called “Yorkist Stories”, which was also published via amazon, in May 2020, with the proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders.

My next non-fiction book, about John de la Pole, 2nd Duke of Suffolk and his son John de la Pole, Earl of Lincoln, provisional title “De la Pole, Father and Son: The Duke, the Earl and the Struggle for Power” will be published by Amberley Publishing in 2022, as the original publishing date had to be delayed due to Covid-19. A book about their mother and grandmother, respectively, the amazing Alice Chaucer, will hopefully be published soon afterwards as well. Apart from these biographies, I`ve written a book on medieval mental health, the treatments and the misconceptions thereof, which should be published by Pen & Sword Publishing within the year.

Do you have any current projects?

My current project is a book on medieval fertility, fertility treatments, pregnancy and childbirth, which is something of a pet subject of mine, as it is a subject that has very rarely been looked at in its own right and is fraught with myths and misconceptions.

After all, I am going to wrote a book on the medieval wardship system, and I have contracts for books on the FitzHugh family from 1321 – 1513, one on medieval royal households, and a biography on Sir William Stanley as well. The latest of those is only due to be handed in by spring 2024, so it`ll be a while yet until it is published.

Where can we buy your books?

My book on Francis Lovell can be bought in any well-stocked bookshop, on the website of Amberley Publishing and naturally on amazon. At the time of writing this, 8 February 2022, it is exactly one week until the book is going to be out in paperback in the United Kingdom.

My self-published books are only available on amazon, and the soon to be published books for Amberley Publishing and Pen & Sword Publishing will soon be available for pre-order both on their websites as well as on amazon.
