Today's History Author Spotlight guest is Beverley Adams.

Tell us about yourself

Hello, my name is Beverley, I have an MA in English and am a qualified proof reader and historian. I write non-fiction as I love researching and enjoy finding out all about different people in history. I love to read and write the occasional review on my blog, although this has been neglected due to other writing commitments. In my spare time I like to socialise with friends, travel and frequent bookshops!

 Tell us about your book

My first book The Rebel Suffragette was published by Pen & Sword in September 2021. It tells the story of the life of Edith Rigby who was a suffragette from my home town of Preston. She was involved in many campaigns throughout the campaign for votes for women including arson, bombing and lobbing black puddings. I really enjoyed the research and writing process, I learnt so much about Edith and her fellow suffragettes and what they went through to win the vote.

What projects are you currently working on?

My second book, The World’s First Computer Programmer: The Life of Ada Lovelace is currently going through editing with my publisher, I don’t have a publication date yet but hopefully the end of 2022. It looks at the life of Ada Lovelace, both her private life and her achievements within the field of mathematical science.  Ada was the daughter of Lord Byron so that aspect of her life was fascinating, I am a huge fan of Lord Byron so learning about his daughter was truly fascinating.

My third book, The Forgotten Tudor Royal: The Life of Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox is currently in the research phase and I hope to start putting pen to paper very soon.

I have also been commissioned to write a short story for the upcoming Lancashire Stories Anthology which is due for release in November. My story focuses on a young serving boy who is in residence at Hoghton Tower at the time of King James I visit in 1617.

I write a monthly article for the Lancashire Post, usually about a Lancastrian from the past who had an interesting time of things. Articles have included Lady Frances Shelley and a young chap who suffered a grisly fate to the lions of Blackpool circus.

Where can we buy your book?

My book is available direct from Pen & Sword and all other good online book retailers.
