Lord of Worth by Philippa Jane Keyworth

London 1776: Lord Worth is busying himself restoring his family fortunes and burying any feelings he still harbours for the woman who rejected his proposal.

The fact that the lady in question—Lady Rebecca Fairing—happens to be his sister’s best friend, his niece’s godmother, and present at every Societal gathering of consequence is… unfortunate.

Meanwhile Rebecca fears she made the wrong decision in rejecting James Worth, but when he assures her he won’t be renewing his proposal, she is forced to accept her choice. It doesn’t take long for the eligible Lord Worth to attract other suitors, among them Lady Sophia, daughter to Society’s most notorious gossip, Lady Goring.

Rebecca knows she must step aside and allow James to find happiness, but when she senses all is not as it seems in the Goring family, she can’t help but intervene.

As James and Rebecca work together to unearth Societal secrets, deal with scheming matriarchs, and face villainous highwaymen, they find themselves more in each other’s company than ever before.

Will they continue to bury their feelings for one another, or will they finally realise what it means to love?

My Review:

As a history lover, the historical accuracy really made this book for me. The 18th century is something I am really interested in and constantly researching, so it was great to see how much research the author had clearly done by including period appropriate clothes, hair, cosmetics, and rules of society. There is even a glossary at the back of the book if you are not familiar with the terms mentioned in the book. This accuracy brought the story to life for me and really helped me to immerse myself in the story.

Rebecca and James are wonderful leading characters, and I was routing for them throughout. I was expecting not to like Rebecca, because she had previously rejected James’ proposal, however, I soon loved her spirit, loyalty, and kindness. Lady Goring was absolutely insufferable, the perfect villainess, and I was silently cheering when her long-suffering daughter, Lady Sophia, got her happily-ever-after!

Lord of Worth was chef’s kiss perfection! Philippa Jane Keyworth has written everything I want in a historical romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and devoured it in two sittings. Although I haven’t read the first two books in the Ladies of Worth series, I plan on doing so very soon. Highly recommended if you love the scandal and drama of the Georgian era.
