Book review - Kings of Georgian Britain

* Gifted|| A huge thank you to Pen and Sword for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

After reading, and thoroughly enjoying Queens of Georgian Britain, also by Catherine Curzon, I wanted to read Kings of Georgian Britain. The book is split into four biographical chapters, exploring the lives of the four Hanoverian kings. Curzon gives us more of a personal look at the men who ruled over the Georgian era. As the author says: “You will not find maps and battle plans, speeches and state papers, though these weighty matters are covered elsewhere . . . These are the tales of the men behind the title.”

As with all royal families, there were scandals, heartbreak, and tragedy a plenty for the Georgian kings. There was a toxic pattern of feuding between fathers and sons, which had a psychological effect on each king, and they never managed to break the cycle. I enjoyed learning more about George I and II, as I didn’t know as much about them as I would have liked.

Curzon has managed to include so much information within Kings of Georgian Britain. The passion for what she’s writing about shines through, and her humour makes reading her books so enjoyable to read! This would make an ideal introductory book, but is likewise great for those of us who are already familiar with the era. Highly recommended!
