* Thank you to Anne from Random Things Tours for inviting me on another fabulous book tour, and to Harper Collins and Dilly Court for sending me a copy of The Wild Rose in exchange for an honest review.
As Rosina settles into her new life, she soon realises Moonshadow Manor holds secrets of its own. With every passing day, she uncovers more about her family. But as long-buried truths begin to surface, will Rosina find the answers she’s looking for … or something she never dreamed of?
My review:
When
Rosina sets off from London to care for her ailing aunt in a crumbling house on
Dartmoor, she believes she is fairly alone in the world. Her father has
recently remarried, and her awful stepmother has given birth to their son —
leaving no room for Rosina.
Rosina finds her aunt gravely ill, with no servants, little money to survive
on, and a hoarding habit that has spiralled out of control. She immediately
sets to work, cleaning and caring for her aunt while trying to restore some
order to the once-grand home.
Rosina begins to uncover mysterious familial links between two other local
families. She also forms an unlikely friendship with Jack Diamond, who believes
her aunt’s manor rightfully belongs to his own family — and he is determined to
prove it.
Alongside the discovery of relatives she never knew existed, the story explores
themes of found family and strong female friendship. The wonderfully gothic
Moonshadow Manor feels like a character in its own right, holding generations’
worth of secrets within its walls. Just when I thought everything had been
resolved, another twist would emerge.
This was such a cosy and enjoyable read. With its mystery, slow-burn romance,
compelling plot twists, and unforgettable characters, The Wild Rose has left me
eager to read more from Dilly Court!
